What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is the original mind/body medicine and often the treatment of choice for certain health and emotional problems. Hypnosis can assist you in changing the way the brain interprets experiences and therefore, can change your life. Hypnosis can help you change your perceptions, your thoughts, your behaviors and your feelings.

It is a means of communication between your conscious and subconscious minds to accept and believe the same message. During hypnosis, the body and mind are in a state of deep relaxation, while the subconscious mind remains awake, extremely focused and receptive to suggestions. Hypnosis is a natural process for the human mind to experience.

What does Hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is simply a very relaxed state that feels familiar because it is familiar. Besides experiencing it before falling asleep, we also experience it when daydreaming, and often when driving and thinking of something else other than our driving.

When in hypnosis you are in a state of deep relaxation, focus and are in total control of your self at all times. Your mind is fully aware, you will hear everything that goes on and you will be able to communicate. Most people, who are hypnotized, will feel that they are not. You do not normally feel like you are in a trance or "zoned out", simply relaxed. You may feel parts of your body being very heavy. You may find it difficult, if not impossible, to lift an arm or leg. Most find it to be a wonderful and relaxing experience.

Do I lose control?

No, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Although the hypnotist guides and develops (deepens) the hypnotic state, the ability to be hypnotized rests with the client. The client is always in control. No one can be induced to do anything against his or her will. While under hypnosis a person will not spontaneously begin talking, or reveal any intimate secrets they would not share while in the waking state. The person is always in control. You’ll remember everything – everything that is said and everything that is experienced.

Who can be hypnotized?

Everyone can be hypnotized but one has to be willing to do it. The important factor is desire. If you want to be hypnotized it will work, if you don't want to be hypnotized it won't work, regardless of how weak or strong-minded you consider yourself to be.
